Visa® Gift Card FAQ
{beginAccordion}
Where can Visa® gift cards be used?
Visa® gift cards, unlike merchant-specific cards, can be used to make purchases anywhere Visa® debit cards are accepted. You can use a gift card at thousands of retail, restaurant, and entertainment locations throughout the U.S., as well as online.
Are Visa® gift cards the same as credit cards?
No. Gift cards are prepaid Visa® cards that carry a fixed cash amount determined by the purchaser. Each time you use the card, the purchase amount is deducted from the available balance.
Can gift cards be reloaded?
Individual cards cannot be “reloaded,” but you always have the option to purchase additional cards for yourself or for someone special in your life.
Can a merchant give cash back on a Visa® gift card?
Merchants can deduct purchases from gift card accounts, but they cannot offer cash back as part of the gift card service.
Do gift cards have expiration dates?
Yes, Visa® gift cards expire when the remaining balance reaches $0.00 or on the expiration date shown on the front of the card. A nominal monthly service fee of $5.00 is waived for the first twelve months, and then is deducted from the card balances the first of the month (at the beginning in month thirteen) until the balance is $0.00 or the card expires.
